Hey everybody. I just felt the urge to make a post about this.
The Bakuman manga has officially ended, with the final chapter being released in Jump this Monday in Japan. Our partners over at Red Hawk have released the final chapter with a farewell message here. If you can spare a few minutes, you should give it a read.
This ending kind of snuck up on everybody and while most people are sad to see such an amazing manga end, I think those same people are glad that Ohba-sensei and Obata-sensei were able to do it justice by ending it the way it was meant to end instead of dragging it on and on like so many other great series.
Although I myself very rarely did any work on the Bakuman project, ObsidianTK and I have a special fondness for this manga. Red Hawk did come to me at one point asking if I would be willing to do the translations, but I just didn’t have the time needed every week for such a massive amount of text. If it weren’t for the manga, however, there obviously would not have ever been a Bakuman anime. And it is that very anime which got the two of us here at Mangawari started on the course to where we are now. We began fansubbing the first season starting with episode 15 after GG dropped it. When it ended, we began scanlating Silver Spoon and, after receiving an invitation to team up with Red Hawk on the series, things have just sort of snowballed and here we are, almost a year and a half later, working on all sorts of different projects. We both owe a lot to this series.
So thank you, Bakuman. And thank you Red Hawk for all the effort you’ve put in every week on this great series. We’re going to miss you.
